Use & Care Instructions

Adjustable Cord Use

To adjust the kevlar cord necklace, it is recommended to adjust one side at a time.

To extend the necklace, slide the knots together, thereby shortening the distance between the slip knots, while increasing the distance between the  knots and clasps.  The easiest way to do this is one side at a time.  Grab the knot on one side of the necklace between your index finger and thumb.  On that same side of the necklace, use your other hand to grab the cord between the knot and the clasp, then pull gently while maintaining your grip on the knot.  The cord should begin to slide through the knot and you can extend the length of the side to your liking.  You will want to do the same on the other side of the necklace, until the cord lengths are relatively even on both sides.  Take out the slack by grabbing both sides of the necklace at the same time, between the knot and clasp, then gently pull taught.

To shorten the necklace, slide the knots apart, thereby increasing the distance between the slip knots, while decreasing the distance between the knots and the clasps.  The easiest way to do this is one side at a time.  Grab the knot on one side of the necklace between your index finger and thumb.  You will use your other hand to grab the correct pair of cords between the knots.  If you know which pair of cords the knot you are pinching slides over, grab that pair of cords with your other hand and gently pull the slip knot towards the clasp.  You will want to do the same on the other side of the necklace, until the cord lengths are relatively even on both sides.  Take out the slack by grabbing both slip knots at the same time, one in each hand, and gently pulling them away from each other.

Try not to pull on the individual loops of the slip knot, or it may come undone.  When gripping the slip knot to adjust the necklace length, pinch firmly between your index finger and thumb.  If the knot comes undone for some reason, do not cut the cord!  You can untie the rest of the knot carefully and then retie it (there are plenty of videos on the internet, or send me an email).

Care Instructions

To remove dust and light debris, simply wipe down the scapular panels and cord with a damp cloth with water; something non-abrasive that won't leave little bits of fuzz on the scapular.

To remove fingerprints and debris from the vinyl windows, you may use a damp  microfiber cloth or cotton cleaning patches with water.  You may also use a diluted 70% IPA on the vinyl, but quickly use a dry cloth after to mop up any remaining alcohol or entrained materials.  Gently wipe the surface clean; scrub gently if necessary.  Try not to press your fingernails or other sharp objects into the vinyl windows; although the windows are durable maritime grade vinyl, they can be punctured or scuffed with too much pressure.

When inserting items into, or removing items from, the Tactical Scapular pouches, use care

If you're inserting silver cards or other items that are close to the maximum capacity of the scapular pouch, get the bottom edge of the card into the pouch then gently ease it down into the pouch.  If it gets hung up, don't force it!  Forcing the item into the scapular may damage the scapular and/or your item - don't do it!  Simply slide the item back a small amount, adjust the angle and try to re-insert.  If the item is too large, do not attempt to force it - instead, find something else to put in the scapular.

If you're inserting cutting cards, try to use a protective sleeve on the cutting edge, which are available on some, or can be purchased separately from those vendors.  If a protective sleeve is used, use the instructions above.  If you're not using a sleeve, just be mindful of the angle of insertion; you don't want to catch the stitching or vinyl with the corner or edge.  You can usually push the non-cutting side against the edge of the pouch interior, then ease the cutting card down into the pouch resulting in little or no contact by the cutting edge. Similarly, be careful when removing such items from the scapular pouches, to avoid damaging the scapular, damaging the item, or potentially hurting yourself.

When removing items from the back-side pouches, if you cannot grab the item from the top, you can usually press the tip of your thumb on the bottom profile of item from the outside, then gently roll your thumb up the back of the pouch, until the item is pushed up far enough to grab.

Storage Suggestions

If you have a good place to hang your Tactical Scapular, such as a hook on the wall, or a headboard, that's one good solution.  Another option is to wind the kevlar cord around both scapular panels and tuck it away in a nightstand or in a  valet/organizer.

Do not store the Tactical Scapular where a child or animal can get to it.  The scapular is not a toy.
